About ARC-NL

Since February 2017, the Anti-Racism Coalition of Newfoundland and Labrador (ARC-NL) actively works to counter all forms of racism. The main objective of the ARC-NL is to promote and support a culture of anti-racism within the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. Building a culture of anti-racism within the province is crucial to address all forms of racisms, including anti-Indigenous racism, anti-Black racism, anti-Muslim racism, anti-immigrant/anti-refugee xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-semitism and other forms of religious intolerance.

Relationship-building is crucial to ARC-NL’s campaigns and initiatives. We continue to outreach and build relationships with anti-racist, Indigenous, Black, racialized, immigrant/refugee and religiously diverse community members and organizations. We have developed several campaigns and community-based partnerships, including, for example, a community-university engagement project with Addressing Islamophobia in Newfoundland and Labrador (https://twitter.com/AddressingNL).

ARC-NL Goals

  • To support and respond to existing local, provincial, national and global anti-racist and anti-xenophobia initiatives.
  • To develop, coordinate and carry out appropriate local and provincial responses to racism, xenophobia, religious intolerance/discrimination and racialized hate.
  • To develop and support community-building and educational initiatives which support a culture of anti-racism in our province.

In addition members of the Partnerships Committee continuously strive to find new ways to further the development of the coalition and secure more funding. The Partnerships Committee works with and across all ARC-NL committees.
